What is the Future Tense?


We use “will” and “going to” to talk about the future – things that will happen later.


1. “Will”


We use will for:

  • Decisions at the moment

  • Promises or offers

  • Future facts

Form:
Subject + will + base verb

  • I will go.

  • She will call.

  • They will help.

Negative:

  • I will not (won’t) go.

  • He won’t eat.

Question:

  • Will you come?

  • What will she do?

2. “Going to”


We use going to for:

  • Plans or intentions

  • Things we already decided

Form:
Subject + am/is/are + going to + base verb

  • I’m going to travel.

  • He’s going to study.

  • They’re going to cook.

Negative:

  • I’m not going to eat.

  • She isn’t going to visit.

Question:

  • Are you going to work tomorrow?

What are they going to do?

Example

Direction: Read the following examples with your tutor


    Using “will”

    I will call you later.

    She will help us.

    They will come at 5 PM.

    Using “going to”

    I’m going to watch a movie.

    He’s going to clean the house.

    We’re going to visit Paris.

Conversation
