What is the Present Continuous?

The Present Continuous tells us about something happening right now or around now.

It shows that the action is still going: not finished.

We make it using: am / is / are + verb-ing

Examples

  • I am eating.

  • He / She / It is reading.

  • You / We / They are playing.

We use the Present Continuous for:

1. An action happening right now

Something is happening at this very moment.

Examples:

  • I am eating dinner.

  • She is talking on the phone.

2. An activity happening around now (but not at the exact moment)

The action is happening these days or this week, not just right now.

Examples:

  • He is studying a lot this week.

  • They are working on a new project.

3. A situation that is changing

Something is slowly or quickly becoming different.

Examples:

  • The weather is getting colder.

  • My English is improving!
