What is a Sentence?
A sentence is a group of words that gives a complete idea. We make sentences by
putting words together. In English, Most sentences have:
Subject (S): who or what does the action. A subject can be a noun or a pronoun.
Verb (V): the action
Object (O): who or what receives the action. The object can also be a noun or a pronoun.
The basic formula for a sentence is: S + V + O = Sentence.
Let's have a few examples.
I eat breakfast.
She reads a book.
They play soccer.
He drinks coffee.
We watch TV.
Also, note that Some sentences do not need an object. Some examples are:
I sleep.
She runs.
These are still complete sentences!
NOTE: A sentence is the basic building block of communication. It helps us share thoughts, actions, and ideas clearly. Check the pictures above for clarification.
