What are pronouns

Pronouns are words that we use instead of nouns (like names of people, places, or things).

Using the pronoun helps us from repeating the noun everytime. This makes language beautiful.

In English, we have "Subject pronouns, Object pronouns, Possesive pronouns etc."

Let's begin with the SUBJECT PRONOUN

1. Subject Pronouns

Subject pronouns do the action in a sentence. They are ( I, you, he, she, it, we, they )

For Example

  • I am Sarah. ( The subject is "I"

  • He is my brother. ( The subject is "He" )

  • They are from Spain. ( The subject is ""They" )

Now, let's look at the OBJECT PRONOUN

2. Object Pronouns

Object pronouns receive the action ( Direct and Indirect ). They are ( me, you, him, her, it, us, them )

For Example

  • She helps me. ( The object is "me" )

  • I see him.  ( The object is "him" )

  • They like us. ( The object is "us" )

Sometimes you hear people say "This is my car, this is my house, that is her husband"  what they are

using to show possession or ownership is what we call in English POSSESIVE PRONOUNS

3. Possessive Pronouns

Possessive pronouns show who owns something. They are ( my, your, his, her, its, our, their )

For example

  • This is my book. ( The possessive pronoun "my" )

  • That is his dog. ( The possessive pronoun "his" )

  • Their house is big. ( The possessive pronoun "thier" )

NOTE: Pronouns can be classified based on person, which refers to who is speaking and who is being spoken about. These are called the persons of pronouns, and they help show who does the action and to whom. check the pictures above for clarification.
